Description

Students who have completed and passed the previous levels including the Itqan course are eligible to start the One-to-One Ijazah programme.

Structure:
There are three components to the Ijazah Programme: Tilaawah, Hifth, and Theory.
1. Tilaawah Component: Students are individually assigned a certified teacher to recite a full khatmah to, from Surah Al-Faatihah to Surah An-Naas.
The teacher may ask the student to recite a few ajzaa’ as practice before starting the Ijaazah khatmah. The teacher is expected to cover the following matters with the student:
• Explain the Usool of the Riwaayah and its Farshiyyaat
• Train the student on mastering Waqf and Ibtidaa’
• Train the student to recite with Rawm and Ishmaam, allowing them to recite at least one juz’ with Rawm and one juz’ with Ishmaam. It is advisable to practice Rawm and Ishmaam on Surah Al-Qamar.
• Train the student to recite with the three speeds of recitation: Tahqeeq, Tadweer and Hadr.
• Train the student to recite with Wasl and Waqf, especially for the 30th juz’. Students will be asked to join the verses together without stopping at the end of the verses and to join the suwar together in some cases as part of their training. Students will also be asked to stop at specific words that are usually recited incorrectly, to train them on stopping correctly.
• Train the students on how to teach others (‘Ardh and Talqeen).
2. Hifth Component: Students are required to memorise two new ajzaa’ from the Quran that have not been previously memorised in the lower levels. (i.e., any two ajzaa’ except for juz’ 15, 29, 30). Students who are over 60 are excused from sitting the hifth examination.
3. Theory Component: All theory covered in Al-Muneer Tajweed Syllabus. Some additional material will also be covered.

Commitment:
Progressing through the Ijaazah programme requires hard work and commitment. It is at the teacher’s discretion to stop the Ijaazah khatmah with the student if they feel that there is little effort being put in or there is no improvement.

Student progress file:
Teachers will keep a student progress file and will note down the student’s mistakes and any advice they give to the student. This progress file will stay with the teacher throughout the Ijazah programme.
If the examination panel decides that a particular student needs to recite to another teacher to correct their mistakes, the student’s progress file will be given to the new teacher for them to fill in for the time that the student is with them. Students are also encouraged to keep their own progress file.

Examinations:
The first examination takes place after the student completes 5 ajzaa’ of the khatmah with their teacher. Subsequent examinations are held after every 5 ajzaa’, followed by a Hifth examination, the final UK Ijaazah examination, and then the final Jordan examination, as follows:
• 5 Ajzaa’ Exam
• 10 Ajzaa’ Exam
• 15 Ajzaa’ Exam
• 20 Ajzaa’ Exam
• 25 Ajzaa’ Exam
• 30 Ajzaa’ Exam
• Final Memorisation Exam
• Final UK Ijazah Exam
• Final Jordan Ijaazah Exam
Each ajzaa’ exam will have a recitation component and a theory (oral) component.
Following each ajzaa’ exam, the examination panel will decide whether the student can continue their khatmah with their teacher, or whether they need additional time with another teacher to correct their mistakes before continuing their khatmah.

Ajzaa’ examinations are held several times per year. Final Ijazah examinations are generally held three times per year.

Duration:
The length of the Ijazah programme depends on the ability of the student. A rough timeframe is 1-2 years; however, some students may take less or longer.
